The Case of Calcium Chloride Desiccant for Watch

Nov 29,2022 | Bond

In May 2015, we received an inquiry from China.

Hello, I have a batch of watchs that need to be export abroad every month, and my customer requires the moisture content of the boxes to be ≤10%, but our moisture content has reached 15% as the picture shown, which is seriously over the limit. I have used silica gel desiccant before, but it doesn't solve the problem. I have also tried various other methods, such as baking with oven, trying to dry with dryer, and taking them under the sun, but they didn't work of high water content of cartons, does you guys have any solution?(original language is Chinese, translated by Bond)

Watches are precision instruments, the internal structure consists of many gears and hands, and moisture is usually one of the things quartz watches need to avoid as much as possible.

15% moisture in watch packaging

There are four primary sources of water contamination in a package: the water vapor in the air inside the box; the water vapor adsorbed by the materials inside the package; the water vapor on the walls of the container; and the permeation of water vapor into the container.

We combined the production process of the package and knew why the water content of the box was high because the box used the bonding process and used glue with high water content. Combined with the local hot and humid weather, the bond accelerated the evaporation of water, so the package of the carton would have too much water content, and the silica gel desiccant he used before, the moisture absorption rate could not reach the requirement, and more efficient desiccant was needed.

Our product expert recommends High moisture absorption desiccant for them, which can reduce the moisture content in the packaging box to 4.5%, as the following picture shows.

4.5% moisture content in packaging

We built a lasting satisfying collaboration from this solution.

If you have similar needs, please get in touch with us, and we will customize the moisture absorber solution to meet your specific requirements.
