Oxygen absorbers contain iron powder, which reacts with oxygen in the air, causing the iron powder to rust. When all the iron powder is oxidised, the deoxidiser is ‘full’ and the absorption stops. Oxygen is removed from the active absorbent and the chemical reaction stops. Putting them back into the air, the reaction starts again until the iron disappears.
