It is categorized into two main types: chemical desiccants (generally non-renewable) and physical desiccants (partially reusable). A typical reusable desiccant is silica gel, whose primary component is highly porous hydrous silica, which locks in moisture through physical adsorption and is reversible. Regeneration methods include high-temperature baking and sun exposure. For high-temperature baking, the original packaging must be removed (most wrapping paper is not heat-resistant) and the desiccant must be baked at 80-120°C to completely remove adsorbed moisture. For color-changing silica gel (such as blue/orange indicators), the temperature must be controlled at 100-120°C to prevent the desiccant particles from bursting. Sun exposure only partially removes moisture, making reuse limited and suitable for temporary emergency situations. Note: Reuse is generally not recommended in industrial settings due to the high cost and poor operability of baking. Regeneration in personal settings is possible using the above methods, but ensures complete drying.
