Silica Desiccant packets are a great way to keep food fresh and of high quality. Food-grade versions are made to meet the demanding safety standards of the food industry. Our food-grade Silica Desiccant packets are FDA-approved, DMF-free, and compliant with REACH, RoHS, and ISO 9001:2015, so they are safe to use with food. Absorbking is a leading desiccant manufacturer with almost 20 years of experience.

Food grade Silica Desiccant works by physically adsorbing moisture without letting go of any dangerous elements. This makes it perfect for a wide range of foods, from snacks and vitamins to dried goods and drink packaging. Our food-grade silica gel is different from industrial-grade silica gel since it does not include any leftover acids, heavy metals, or unapproved chemicals. It also follows FDA rules that say amorphous silica gel is Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS). Because it is inert, the Silica Desiccant never changes the taste, smell, or make-up of the food it protects, thus the quality of the product stays the same all the way through the supply chain.
Even though food grade Silica Desiccant is safe, there are important rules and limits on how to use it. First, you should never eat Silica Desiccant packets. Even food-grade ones need a clear, easy-to-read "DO NOT EAT" warning label, or else the FDA will say they are misbranded. Second, it is not a good idea to use Silica Desiccant (with color-changing dyes) for direct food contact. Instead, use non-indicating white bead silica gel for food packaging. Third, the amount of Silica Desiccant you use is important. In low-humidity situations, you should use 500g per cubic meter. In high-humidity conditions, you should use 750-1000g. You should also keep the packets in sealed food containers so they do not come into contact with the air.
One further important condition is that food grade Silica Desiccant can only be used for indirect or restricted direct contact with food. The packet's exterior wrapper (non-woven fabric or food-safe paper) must also fulfill FDA food-contact criteria if it will be in direct contact with food (for example, within snack pouches). Also, Silica Desiccant packets lose their effectiveness if they are not sealed. Always use them right after opening, and store any packets you do not use in an airtight container to keep them from absorbing moisture. It is not a good idea to regenerate food grade Silica Desiccant for food use because reprocessing could make it less safe to eat.

Our food-grade Silica Desiccant packets come in a range of sizes (1g, 2g, 5g, 10g, 20g, and up to 500g) to meet all of your food packaging needs. We also offer OEM/ODM support for branded packaging and logos. Our Silica Desiccant solutions are trusted by major companies like Walmart and Costco. They are backed by more than 50 professional researchers and more than 500 transport sector clients. They consistently absorb moisture to keep food fresh and avoid deterioration from humidity.
For food safety and to follow the rules, it is not up for debate to choose the proper food grade Silica Desiccant. To make sure your Silica Desiccant meets international food safety requirements, always choose a recognized manufacturer like Absorbking.
